Why Visit Point Lobos?

Point Lobos State Natural Reserve is a nature paradise, perfect for hikers, photographers, nature lovers, and families visiting the Big Sur area. Not only does it have several, easy and scenic hikes, it also is abundant with wildlife such as seals, sea lions, birds, and whales (during migration). This is also a very popular place for snorkelers and scuba divers.

Where in California is Point Lobos?

Point Lobos is located in Northern California. You can find it right below the town of Carmel-by-the-Sea. It is a situated just north of Big Sur.

How Much Does it Cost to Visit Point Lobos?

It is $10/vehicle for the day. There are additional fees for kayaks, scuba divers, and snorkelers.

What are the Best Hiking Trails in Point Lobos?

If you want to hike the entire nature reserve, you can choose to do the Point Lobos Loop Trail, which is a 6.7 mile loop around the natural reserve. If you prefer something shorter, you cannot go wrong with the Cypress Grove Trail (.8 miles). You can then take a quick drive to the other part of the reserve, where you can hike to Bird Island. This trail is where we saw many seals and sea lions on the beach, and (big surprise) an abundance of birds.
